Comfort Quilt
2025, 41,” 41”
Fabric, batting, thread
This work was created during the year I spent more time away from home than I ever have, which left me wondering, what is home? Is it a feeling or a place? What does it mean to want to go home? How can home be abstracted? How can it be compartmentalized? My answer was these 6 “quilt squares” or symbols: Home is sycamore leaves, the tattoo on my mom’s shoulder, my stuffed dog (barely still blue), my grandmothers’ daffodils (who return without her every year), the foot of my childhood pet (buried out back), and the tree my dad planted (knowing he would never see it).
